Former BDO partner Stephen Herring is to join the Institute of Director (IOD) as its head of tax.

Herring, who retired as a tax partner from BDO in July this year after more than 10 years with the firm, is a well known speaker on UK and global taxation issues. He was appointed as one of the eight independent members of the Treasury's Tax Professionals Forum in September 2010.

At the IoD, Herring will be based within the policy unit and will focus upon the impact of tax policies introduced by the government and the need for additional reforms to promote UK economic growth.
