Scholarship success for Accountancy's Ben Davies

Ben Davies, the chartered accountant who won last year's Accountancy scholarship to study a Diploma in Financial Strategy at Oxford's Said Business School, has passed with flying colours by gaining a distinction.

During his year, Davies has written a diary about his experiences in Oxford, published in Accountancy, the final entry of which you can read on p56.

He said: 'I'm delighted with the great result, given the time pressures, and was particularly pleased with my dissertation.' He added that the Diploma was 'absolutely worthwhile'.

And as Davies leaves his studies on a high, Accountancy can announce the winner of this year's competition.

Danielle Esterhuysen won this year's scholarship prize with her essay 'Businesses today: more risky, less risk', which will be published in May's Accountancy.

She worked in audit for three years before qualifying as a chartered accountant and subsequently moved into investment banking, concentrating on product control, risk and reporting. She is currently on a three-month volunteer programme with Raleigh International.

Of her scholarship, Esterhuysen said: 'Being given the opportunity to study at Oxford with access to world-class research, faculty and study facilities, as well as the ability to learn from other students in my class, would make the experience both invaluable and truly unforgettable.'
