People in the news: RSM, CVR Global, Zedra, Carey Olsen

In this week’s accountancy career moves, partner hires at RSM, CVR Global and Carey Olsen, promotions at Wylie & Bisset, onshore MD for trust specialist Zedra, and Revenue Scotland ramps up board members

RSM has appointed Susan Ball as a partner in its employer solutions national team, based in London.  Ball will be working with clients on complex UK employment tax related issues including off-payroll working, salary sacrifice, risk reviews and pay and benefit structures. She has more than 30 years’ experience in taxation and returned to RSM after an eight-year stint at Crowe as partner and head of national employers advisory services. She is vice president of the Chartered Institute of Taxation (CIOT), and a member of the employment taxes committee.

Insolvency and restructuring firm CVR Global has strengthened its senior management team with the appointment of Darren Reeds as a partner to drive international business. He will be based in the London office and will support the firm’s international work in Gibraltar, Jersey and the British Virgin Islands, ranging across administrations, liquidations, receiverships and forensic investigations, and being part of the continuing growth of its overseas offices. He joins the firm from Deloitte where he was head of financial advisory services for the insolvency and restructuring division in the British Virgin Islands (BVI).

Zedra, a global specialist in trust, corporate and fund services, has appointed Stuart McLuckie as UK onshore managing director, based at the Cheshire office. He has 20 year’s industry experience in the UK trust industry and previously ran the Group’s Swiss operations. His brief will be to lead the expansion of Zedra’s onshore businesses.

Glasgow-based Wylie & Bisset has promoted Shehzad Ashaq and Laura Fagan to partner at the firm, while Gavin Brown, Joseph McKeeman and Graeme Wright have been promoted to manager positions. At the same time, further internal promotions include Matthew McDermott, assistant manager; Tracey Jenkins, supervisor; Scott McCready, supervisor; Martha Cleary, marketing and events coordinator and Stephen McDonald, case administrator. Wylie & Bisset has now has 11 partners and 120 staff.

Carey Olsen Bermuda has promoted Gavin Woods to the role of partner. He joined the corporate team at the firm at the beginning of this year and has nearly 10 years' experience in the Bermuda market, prior to which he practised in London and New York. He specialises in corporate finance, corporate structuring and insurance transactional and regulatory matters.

Specialist corporate finance firm Verde Corporate Finance has hired Mike Fenwick FCA as associate director to boost the senior management team. He has over 30 years’ experience and previously was finance director at Wild Water Group. Prior to this he spent 28 years in practice including 21 years at PWC where he originally trained and seven years as a director in the corporate finance team of regional firm Broomfield Alexander.

Revenue Scotland has appointed two new members to the board of the Scottish tax authority, Jean Lindsay, a former director of human resources at the Forestry Commission, and Martin McEwen, currently head of tax at SSE plc. The appointments are regulated by the Commissioner for Ethical Standards in Public Life in Scotland and run for three years from 1 July 2019 to 30 June 2022. The positions are part-time and involve a time commitment of up to 12 days a year. Their appointment brings the borad to seven members, including chair Dr Keith Nicholson; Jane Ryder; John Whiting, former head of the Office of Tax Simplification (OTS); Ian Tait and Lynn Bradley.

Peter Wallwork, chief executive of the Credit Services Association (CSA), has been appointed to the board of the Money Advice Liaison Group (MALG). His appointment was confirmed at the MALG AGM in July.
