South west based accountants, Milsted Langdon, has promoted Mark Smith and Guy Armitage-Norton to director roles. Armitage-Norton has been appointed as general practice director supporting partners and new business, while Smith is named as IT director responsible for rolling our Making Tax Digital and IT infrastructure services. Matt Barnes has been promoted to forensic manager and Maisie Hilton, Lewis Sparks and Clare Parsons are now supervisors.
Midlands accounting firm Thorne Widgery has hired Greg Smith as payroll manager with a brief to focus on a technology-driven approach to payroll.
Financial Reporting Council (FRC) board member, Julia Unwin CBE, has received the Chartered Management Institute (CMI) Lifetime Achievement Award in recognition of her trailblazing public and voluntary sector leadership. Unwin was appointed to the board of the FRC in 2018 and was chair of the independent inquiry into the Future of Civil Society in England, which reported in December 2018. Prior to this she was chief executive of the Joseph Rowntree Foundation from 2007 to 2016. She is also a non-executive director at Mears Group and Yorkshire Water, and senior strategic adviser at the Health Foundation.
The Chartered Institute for Securities & Investment (CISI) has appointed Karen Ashcroft as global director of finance. Prior to joining CISI Ashcroft was head of finance and company secretary at GAN plc and before that group financial controller at Euromoney Institutional Investor. She qualified as a chartered accountant with EY in Christchurch, New Zealand.
Cloud platform Centage Corporation has hired Jason Lin as chief financial officer, replacing John Orlando, who is retiring from the company after over 15 years as CFO. Prior to joining Centage, Lin held senior financial positions at Zoominfo, Monster Worldwide, IkaSystems and TripAdvisor. He has extensive experience in finance, accounting and administration, along with a strong financial planning and analysis background.
