Two former high-flying KPMG partners, who left the firm earlier this after it failed to address allegations of bullying, are setting up a deal advisory firm that they hope will break down the ‘macho’ working practices in the corporate finance profession.
Maggie Brereton and Ina Kjare resigned from KPMG in February in protest at how the firm handled concerns raised over the alleged bullying by corporate finance partner Sanjay Thakkar. Brereton was head of UK transaction services while Kjaer was head of UK integration in the deal advisory team. They have now joined forces to create Eos Deal Advisory. The pair plan to recruit 15 employees by October.
Matts Persson, EY’s Brexit strategy leader, is reported to be joining Chancellor of the Exchequer Sajid Javid’s Whitehall team as chief of staff. The move follows the controversial departure of the chancellor’s former chief of staff Sonia Khan, who was reportedly sacked by 10 Downing Street without the chancellor’s knowledge. Perrson joined EY from 10 Downing Street, where he was special adviser to former prime minister David Cameron, and part of the 2015/16 team that renegotiated the EU’s membership terms and other reforms. Prior to this, he was director of Open Europe, an influential independent policy think tank.Persson left No 10 after the EU referendum in 2016 to join EY’s international trade, economics and policy (ITEP) unit.
Saffery Champness has appointed David Bussey as director in the mid-tier firm’s Yorkshire office. Bussey joined the team almost 20 years ago and is part of the Landed Estates and Rural Businesses team. As a director, he will promote the growth of rural business and estates advisory services in Yorkshire and the North East from the firm's base in Harrogate.
Baldwins has appointed an associate tax director, Liz Rothery, who is a specialist in inheritance tax and trust planning. She will work alongside the senior team at Baldwins’ Seaton Burn office. With 14 years' experience in private client tax planning, she has expertise in dealing with high net worth individuals and the local market.
