People in the news: BDO, HW Fisher, Begbies Traynor

In this week’s accountancy career moves, two partner appointments at BDO, director named at Begbies Traynor, and hires at Tide and HW Fisher

BDO has appointed two partners, Catherine Grum who joins the Private Client Services team in London, and Sam Patel joins the financial services team, also in London. Grum joins from KPMG where she was the head of family office services and responsible for founding the UK’s family office Centre of Excellence. Patel joins from Mazars where he was a risk and internal audit partner.

Mike Day has joined Begbies Traynor Group as director of the Humber offices, working alongside Karl Hodson. Before this appointment Day was head of sales at Bibby Financial Services.

HW Fisher has appointed Simon Johnson as non-executive director. Johnson previously worked as the CEO at the Jewish Leadership Council and is currently chair of The Rugby Football League.

Daljit Rehal has been named chief digital and information officer at HMRC. Rehal joins HMRC after nearly nine years at Centrica as Global Digital and Data Services Director, previously holding senior positions at Talk Talk and Virgin Media. Rehal replaces interim CDIO director general Mark Denney, who played a leading role in the search for his successor.

Business banking platform, Tide has appointed Sir Donald Brydon as non-executive chairman, making him their first independent director. Brydon has board experience from the London Stock Exchange, the Royal Mail Group and most recently the Sage Group where he was chairman.

ProShare and ICSA: The Chartered Governance Institute name Murray Tompsett as head of Proshare starting this October. Tompsett joins from Computershare and Equatex, where he has been a Senior client relationship manager for four years.
