David Pike, Mike Pink and Stuart Irwin from KPMG’s restructuring practice have been appointed as joint liquidators to Norwegian Air Resources UK Ltd, which has shed over 1,000 jobs after the low-cost carrier exited its North American routes
The appointment follows the announcement made by the Norwegian Group in January in which the airline confirmed it is to cease its long-haul operations.
Norwegian Air Resources UK Ltd is Norwegian’s UK crewing business, employing approximately 1,100 people at its base in Gatwick. With long-haul operations coming to a close, the entity no longer had the necessary funds to meet its financial obligations, resulting in the appointment of liquidators.
David Pike, partner at KPMG, said: ‘This is extremely disappointing news for the UK aviation industry and the employees. This appointment forms part of Norwegian Air’s wider operational and restructuring programme which will see the company exit its long-haul routes and instead focus on routes within Norway and Europe.’
