Jon Roberts is partner and head of assurance at Grant Thornton UK LLP and has over 30 years' experience of public audit, including over 15 years as engagement lead. He took up the senior assurance job at Grant Thornton in July 2018, moving from his previous role leading the firm’s public sector audit team.

He recently chaired Grant Thornton’s public sector assurance board, whose remit includes  development of the firm's local public audit approach and accompanied specialist public sector audit training; overseeing quality and technical arrangements; and leading arrangements for professional training in the public sector. He is also chair of the firm's national consistency panel for VFM conclusions and lead partner for our national challenge (public rights) arrangements.

He leads Grant Thornton’s local public audit relationships with a number of external bodies, including the Financial Reporting Council (FRC), Public Sector Audit Appointments Ltd, National Audit Office, Department for Communities and Local Government and CIPFA. He is currently an accredited peer reviewer for the Local Government Association.
