HMRC plans IT downtime for Making Tax Digital

The newly launched HMRC Making Tax Digital for VAT online reporting service will be unavailable for part of the weekend and for the whole working day on Monday due to IT maintenance

HMRC has confirmed that planned downtime this weekend will mean that the MTD for VAT reporting service will not be available from 11.30pm on 15 June 2019 to 10.30am on 16 June 2019.

There will also be scheduled maintenance from 9am to 5pm on Monday 17 June 2019.

Over this period it will not be possible to submit VAT returns or view any return information through an HMRC online services account or accounting software.

Further maintenance is planned on 23 June from midnight to 3am.

All VAT payers who pre-registered for the MTD for VAT service before the mandatory start date of 6 April 2019 must submit VAT returns online using software as soon as an account is activated. For those who delayed signing up, the first MTD mandatory reporting requirement will not start until July at the earliest for the majority of customers.

Some monthly VAT payers will already be using the auto filing system if they do not want to make payments on account and submit quarterly VAT returns, as long as they have completed form VAT 484.
