The computer and telephone systems at the VAT Registration Service (VRS) office in Grimsby which were out of order earlier today have now been fixed.
This location primarily deals with group registrations for VAT and transfers of going concerns (TOGC).
The Joint VAT Consultative Committee (JVCC), an HMRC forum, issued a statement to CIOT earlier today saying that ‘every effort is being made to resolve this issue and please accept my apologies for any inconvenience this has caused or may cause to you and your members’.
Tax advisers were told to contact the Wolverhampton office on 03000 523240 with any urgent enquiries. However, JVCC said that ‘it may not be possible for staff at Wolverhampton to access details of a specific case but they will try to help as far as possible’.
