Estate agents move to HMRC anti-money laundering supervision

From 1 April, estate agents have moved under the HMRC money laundering supervisory remit as opposed to reporting to the Office of Fair Trading (OFT) as was previously the case.

HMRC has issued a guide for estate agency businesses who need to register with the tax authorities to comply with anti-money laundering supervision rules.

The guide explains how estate agency businesses can register with HMRC for anti-money laundering supervision under the Money Laundering Regulations 2007.

HMRC took over the supervision of estate agency businesses from the OFT on 1 April 2014.
