Deloitte UK signs BAL deal on immigration compliance

Deloitte UK and law firm Berry Appleman & Leiden LLP (BAL) have set up an alliance to offer an immigration service for global employers

Under the arrangement, Berry Appleman & Leiden LLP will continue to operate as an independent law firm and offer immigration services in the US, while Deloitte Global will provide immigration services for the rest of the world.

At the same time, Deloitte Global plans to purchase the law firm’s operations in eight non-US locations, bringing the number of immigration specialists to over 1,500 in 135 countries.

The alliance combines Deloitte’s expertise in global mobility expatriate tax, reward and innovation with Berry Appleman Leiden’s US immigration capability and case management technology. It will provide a range of legal compliance services for global employers.

The alliance is anticipated to become effective transaction will be completed in July.

In addition, Deloitte Global intends to acquire certain non-US law firms from Berry Appleman & Leiden LLP including the assets and operations in the UK, and also in Australia, Brazil, China, Dubai, Mozambique, Singapore and South Africa through its respective member firms, adding 170 experienced practitioners. 

Deloitte US is not party to the alliance or the acquisition.
