Leading accounting and finance conference and exhibition Accountex has teamed up with professional services body ACCA, software specialist Practice Ignition and Generation CFO, a network of finance professionals, to launch a new, free virtual summit for accountants next month
Taking place over 13-14 May (the same dates Accountex was due to run before being moved to new dates in November), organisers say this initiative comes as a direct response to the ongoing Covid-19 crisis, and aims to deliver a worldclass conference experience online.
Billed as ‘a virtual hub of ideas, innovation, inspiration’, participants will be available to access a series of insight-led webinars and videos offering regulatory guidance, essential skills and case studies.
Day one’s sessions will focus on the current challenges facing accountants in practice, providing advice and business support for them and their clients.
The second day is devoted to accountants working in business and finance. Topics include managing the business impact of the coronavirus (including the job retention scheme), controlling cashflow, utilising communication tools, tax and compliance updates, safeguarding the mental health and wellbeing of employees. The day will also include best-guess predictions on what’s next for the profession once restrictions soften and are lifted.
Jason Hinkle, head of member engagement at ACCA Europe & Americas, said: ‘Creating something so impressive in such a short period of time, that will really support and guide the profession through such a challenging period, has been remarkable. Bringing four key industry organisations together, that all wanted to help, shows the strength of our connections and community.’
Zoe Lacey-Cooper, Accountex’s portfolio director, said: ‘The lives and livelihoods of so many people have been hugely affected by events of the last few months, with no clear end in sight. This is our way of giving something back to support our industry. Over 500 people and counting have already pre-registered their interest in joining us for the summit.’
Accountex 2020 will now take place on the new dates of 18-19 November at ExCeL London. For more information and to register, visit www.accountex.co.uk/london.
