MoJ consults on alignment of probate fees

Released 10 July 2021

The Ministry of Justice (MoJ) is consulting on a proposal to charge a single fixed fee for all grants of probate in England and Wales, whether the application is submitted by a professional or lay person.

This consultation proposes to align the fees for professional and non-professional applicants of probate into a single fee of £273. This fee reflects the costs to Her Majesty’s Courts and Tribunals Service (HMCTS) of providing the service and would not generate a profit for the government.

The consultation runs until 23 September 2021.
