Chancellor of the Exchequer appointed

Released 13 February 2020

Following Sajid Javid’s resignation as Chancellor of the Exchequer, Rishi Sunak, who has been chief secretary since July 2019, has taken up the position.

The announcement forms part of the Prime Minister’s post-election reshuffle. Javid had only been Chancellor since July 2019. He was due to deliver his first Budget on 11 March and will be the only Chancellor to have been in the position for such a short time that he was unable to deliver a Budget since Randolph Churchill.
