National Insurance Contributions (Termination Awards and Sporting Testimonials) Bill progresses to Lords

The National Insurance Contributions (Termination Awards and Sporting Testimonials) Bill has progressed from the House of Commons to the House of Lords.

The purpose of the Bill is to make amendments to the National Insurance treatment of termination awards and income from sporting testimonials. The Bill completed its House of Commons stages with both Report stages and Third reading taking place on Monday 10 June 2019. MPs voted 270 to 207 to approve the Third Reading of the Bill. The First reading of the Bill in the House of Lords followed on 11 June 2019. This stage is a formality that signals the start of the Bill's journey through the Lords. Second reading - the general debate on all aspects of the Bill - is yet to be scheduled.
