SI 2018/1299 - The European Economic Interest Grouping (Amendment) (EU Exit) Regulations 2018
Released 05 December 2018
SI 2018/1299 makes amendments in connection with the UK withdrawal from the EU from exit day.
The European Economic Interest Grouping (Amendment) (EU Exit) Regulations 2018 are made in exercise of the powers in the European Union (Withdrawal) Act 2018, s. 8(1) in order to address failures of retained EU law to operate effectively and other deficiencies arising from the withdrawal of the UK from the European Union. The regulations make amendments to legislation in the field of companies and, in particular, amend legislation relating to the creation and operation of European Economic Interest Groupings. The regulations provide that, on exit day, European Economic Interest Groupings that are registered in the UK immediately before that day are to be converted into “UK Economic Interest Groupings” or “UKEIGs”. The regulations also make provision in respect of “EEIG establishments”: establishments in the United Kingdom of European Economic Interest Groupings that are registered in a Member State. The regulations come into force on exit day (defined by EUWA 2018, s. 20(1) as 29 March 2019 at 11.00 p.m.).
