Carillion replaces FD and management team

Troubled construction and outsourcing group Carillion, one of the contractors on the government’s high profile HS2 rail project, has announced that Zafar Khan, group finance director, has left the company with immediate effect, while it is implementing a number of executive management changes including bringing in an EY partner

Emma Mercer has been appointed chief financial officer, commencing her role immediately. Since joining Carillion in 2008, she has held several senior positions, most recently finance director of the UK construction business, prior to which she was chief financial officer and senior vice president of Carillion Canada. Khan leaves having been group finance director since 1 January 2017. He took over from Richard Adam, so retired on 31 December 2016.

Lee Watson has been appointed chief transformation officer on secondment from EY. He has been a partner at EY since 2008 during which time he has advised on numerous transformations and restructurings for UK companies. His appointment at Carillion is effective immediately.

Andy Jones, currently president and chief executive of Carillion Canada, has been appointed chief operating officer and will take up this role on 1 October 2017.  

In addition, the Company announced that Richard Howson, chief operating officer, Adam Green, managing director Carillion Construction Services and Nigel Taylor, managing director Carillion Services, will be leaving the company on 30 September. Shaun Carter, group strategy director, will be leaving by the end of the year.

Carillion has endured a turbulent time following a shock profit warning a few weeks ago and its shares have dropped by 80%. It was originally due to announce its half-year results in August, but the announcement has been pushed back until later this month.
