Alex Bottom to head up Hillier Hopkins

Top 50 chartered accountant and tax adviser firm Hillier Hopkins has appointed Alex Bottom as managing principal effective immediately, replacing Grant Franklin who is stepping down after eight years

Bottom, who has served on the firm’s board of management since 2013, joined Hillier Hopkins as a student in 1997. As well as growing a large portfolio of clients, he has led the audit department and student recruitment programme. During his time, Bottom has built a highly successful education team who advise a large number of independent schools, students’ unions and academy trusts.

Ranked at number 44 in the Accountancy league table of firms, Hillier Hopkins has been steadily expanding in size and geographic reach over the years. Established in 1933, it has offices in London, Milton Keynes and Watford and reported fee income of £16.2m last year. 

Managing principal Alex Bottom said: ‘We are very fortunate at Hillier Hopkins in that throughout our growth we have been able to attract a hugely talented team who are loyal to the firm. I am very honoured to have been chosen to lead them and am looking forward to working together to seize the opportunities ahead. My focus will be to continue our commitment to providing friendly expertise and to ensure that our clients prosper above all else.’

Outgoing managing principal Grant Franklin said: ‘It has been my absolute pleasure serving two terms as managing principal of Hillier Hopkins, and I’m delighted to be handing over to Alex. Having worked with Alex for more than 20 years I know he is superbly qualified to lead us through the next phase of our development.’
